“The Disease to Please” by Harriet B. Braiker
People pleasers are not just lovely people who go overboard to make everyone happy. Those who suffer from the Disease to Please say "Yes" when they want to say "No." For them, the uncontrollable need for the elusive approval of others is an addiction. Their debilitating fears of anger and confrontation force them to use "niceness" and "people-pleasing" as self-defense camouflage.
Strategy
Don't ever edit your journalling - I used to do this for years - maybe because I was afraid if someone found out what I thought, I would be embarrassed, or it would be discovered, and I would be fearful of what the other person thought of me; - funny enough even after I am dead.
I have since become freer with my journaling by not editing.
Why is it important not to edit or cross out words in my journal?
When you are writing in your journal, you are "free thinking." You write your thoughts as they arise. When you edit or cross out words in your journal, you stop the flow of your ideas and writing.
By letting all your thoughts come out, you are tapping into the subconscious mind to discover the wisdom you already possess. Sometimes, this wisdom will surprise you. You will know from deep within that you know more than you think. You can find the answers within yourself, and you will return to your subconscious mind for further knowledge.
Question
When will you start journaling?
