The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall...
Quotes
"There are no small parts - only small actors" — Val Kilmer on being a star in a play than being forced to down to a smaller role.
“The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson.
“We are kept from our goal, not by obstacles, but by a clear path to a lesser goal.” — The Bhagavad Gita.
"The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall." — Nelson Mandela.
"The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing." —Walt Disney
"Be diligent in your affairs. At the end of the day, if nothing goes according to your plan, there will be no one else to blame" — Teronie J. Donaldson (Yep, that's me - cool, right?)
Notes/Observation
“Memory and identity are burdens from the past preventing us from living freely in the present.”
I think about this lesson every time I am in an area of growth, and my previous identity tries to scare me off from trying.
If I think of the person I was, I will retreat into a shell and not take on the experience of growth. If I think of the person I want to become, I can proceed without fear.

Val Kilmer Documentary on Amazon Prime
Val Kilmer, one of Hollywood’s most mercurial actors, has documented his life and craft through film. He has amassed thousands of hours of footage, from home movies made with his brothers to time spent in iconic roles for blockbuster films like Top Gun & Batman. This raw and wildly original documentary reveals a life lived to extremes and a heart-filled look at what it means to be an artist.
Takeaways
Dont be afraid to share your art - no matter what.
Document your life’s progress. You can always look back and learn from what you saved.
The Big Picture starring Kevin Bacon.
Hollywood beckons for recent film school grad Nick Chapman (Kevin Bacon), who is out to capitalize on the momentum from his national award-winning student film. Studio executive Allen Habel (J.T. Walsh) seduces Nick with a dream deal to make his first feature. Still, once production gets rolling, corporate reality begins to intervene: Nick cannot control a series of compromises to his high-minded vision, and it's all he can do to maintain his integrity amidst filmmaking chaos.
My takeaways
Just because you have a hit - doesn't make you top shit. You will have to humble yourself, or you will become arrogant.
Just because people flatter you doesn't mean they like you - those same people will toss you away when they realize you cannot do anything for them.
Cherish the people who really support you - those are your key relationships and will take you through the world's chaos when you need someone you can trust.
Don't compromise your art.
