Book of the Week
I have read this book 2 times already and listened to the phenomenal audio at least 5 times and I always get incredible reminders of this books brilliance.
"Can't Hurt Me" by David Goggins offers several powerful takeaways, but three key insights stand out on this read for their potential to impact my personal and professional growth and I know it will impact you as well:
The 40% Rule: Goggins introduces the idea that most people only tap into 40% of their capabilities. He argues that we often have much more potential than we realize and that mental barriers usually stop us before physical ones do. This concept encourages pushing beyond comfort zones to access the untapped 60% of our abilities, leading to breakthroughs in various aspects of life.
The Accountability Mirror: Goggins advocates for a daily practice he calls the "Accountability Mirror," where you face yourself in the mirror and honestly assess your efforts and achievements. This practice is about being truthful about where you are and where you want to go, and it serves as a daily reminder to hold oneself accountable for taking steps toward personal goals. This strategy can be especially effective in maintaining motivation and fostering a disciplined approach to growth.
Calloused Mind: Throughout the book, Goggins discusses developing a "calloused mind," which involves repeatedly subjecting oneself to challenges and discomfort to build mental toughness. This concept is similar to how one builds calluses on the hands through physical labor, suggesting that exposure to difficulties strengthens the mind. The takeaway is that resilience can be developed through consistent effort and facing adversity, ultimately helping individuals to better cope with stress and obstacles.
These lessons from Goggins' life are intended to inspire you to confront your limitations and to persist through challenges with a fortified mind and determined spirit.
This book is a must read and a must listen. Goggings is in a world of his own.
